Michael Earl Smith, was born to parents George Smith and Vidoll Vallejos in Dexter, New Mexico. His father George was also a jockey. His parents were divorced very earlier and has a younger brother. He lived with his maternal grandparents’ horse farm where he learned the horse riding and began breaking horses ( Horse training).

 

He married twice, his first married to Patrice Lively in Hot Springs. Patrice is the daughter of jockey John L. Lively. The relationship was ended after 14 years of marriage. Furthermore, he also dated jockey Chantal Sutherland between 2008 to 2010 before she married to other man.
